TikTok is the most downloaded app in the world, and its videos are everywhere — on Instagram, YouTube Shorts, Twitter, and countless other platforms. But when you save a TikTok video using the native app, it comes with a large watermark in the corner that makes the video look like an ad for TikTok rather than standalone content.
Whether you're a content creator repurposing your own videos, a marketer saving reference material, or simply someone who wants a clean copy of a video they love, this guide covers every method — for desktop, Android, and iOS.
Why People Want to Remove the TikTok Watermark
The TikTok watermark includes the TikTok logo and the creator's username, displayed prominently in the corner of the video. Here's why it's a problem for many users:
- Cross-platform repurposing — Content creators who post the same video on Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other platforms don't want a TikTok watermark on content they're posting elsewhere. It looks unprofessional and can reduce engagement.
- Personal archives — People who want to save videos they love for offline viewing don't want a cluttered watermark on their personal collection.
- Video editing — Editors who want to use TikTok clips as reference material or in compilations need clean footage.
- Research and analysis — Marketers and researchers studying TikTok trends need clean video files for analysis.
Legal Use Cases for Downloading TikTok Videos
Before downloading, it's worth being clear about what's acceptable:
- Your own content — Completely fine. You created it.
- Public content for personal use — Saving a video to watch offline or for personal reference is generally tolerated. TikTok's own app includes a native save feature, confirming this is expected behaviour.
- Research and education — Downloading videos for academic research, journalism, or educational purposes is generally protected under fair use principles in most countries.
- Redistribution without credit — Reposting someone else's TikTok on another platform without crediting the original creator is ethically problematic and potentially a copyright violation.
- Commercial use — Using someone else's TikTok video in commercial content without permission is a clear copyright violation.
How to Download on Desktop (Windows & Mac)
The desktop method is the most straightforward and gives you the highest quality result.
Using our TikTok Video Downloader:
- Find the video. Open TikTok in your browser (
tiktok.com) and navigate to the video you want to download. - Copy the URL. Copy the video URL from your browser's address bar. It will look like
tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890. - Open the tool. Go to our TikTok Video Downloader.
- Paste the URL. Enter the video link into the input field.
- Download. Click the download button. The video will be saved to your computer in its original quality — no watermark.
Alternative desktop method (no tool needed):
- Open the TikTok video in your browser.
- Right-click on the video and select "Inspect" (or press F12).
- Go to the Network tab and filter by "Media".
- Play the video — the video file request will appear.
- Right-click the request and open in a new tab, then save the video.
How to Download on Android
Android gives you more flexibility than iOS for downloading videos. Here's the easiest method:
Using our tool in Chrome:
- Open TikTok and find the video you want to save.
- Share the video. Tap the share icon (arrow) on the right side of the video.
- Copy link. Tap "Copy link" from the share menu.
- Open Chrome and go to our TikTok Video Downloader.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Save the video. Long-press the downloaded video and select "Download" or "Save to device".
Quality: Up to 1080p, no watermark.
Note: Some Android browsers may open the video in a new tab instead of downloading directly. If this happens, long-press the video in the new tab and select "Save video".
How to Download on iPhone (iOS)
iOS is slightly more restrictive than Android, but our tool works seamlessly in Safari:
- Open TikTok and find the video you want to save.
- Copy the link. Tap the share icon → "Copy link".
- Open Safari and go to our TikTok Video Downloader.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Save to Photos. When the video opens, tap and hold the video, then select "Save to Photos" or tap the share icon and choose "Save Video".
Alternative for iOS: If you have the Shortcuts app, you can create a shortcut that automatically downloads TikTok videos to your Photos app when you share a link to it. Search for "TikTok downloader shortcut" in the Shortcuts Gallery.
Note: iOS 15 and later have improved video saving from Safari. If you're on an older iOS version, you may need to use the Files app to save the video first, then move it to Photos.
What to Do If the Video Is Private
Private TikTok videos (set to "Only me" or "Friends") cannot be downloaded by anyone other than the account owner. This is enforced at the server level — no tool can bypass it.
If you're trying to download your own private video:
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Find the private video and tap the three-dot menu.
- Select "Save video" — this saves it to your device with the TikTok watermark.
- To get a watermark-free version, temporarily change the video's privacy to "Everyone", copy the link, use our downloader, then change it back to private.
For videos from other accounts that are set to private, there is no legitimate way to download them. Respect the creator's privacy settings.
Quality Tips and Best Practices
- Always use a direct downloader over screen recording. Screen recordings are limited by your screen resolution and add compression artifacts. Direct downloads preserve the original video quality.
- Check the video resolution before sharing. After downloading, verify the file properties to confirm you got the full resolution. TikTok videos are typically 1080×1920 pixels (9:16 aspect ratio).
- Download promptly. TikTok creators can delete their videos at any time. If you want to save a video, do it soon after finding it.
- Use the TikTok web version for the cleanest URLs. URLs from the TikTok app's share feature sometimes include tracking parameters. The web URL (
tiktok.com/@username/video/ID) is cleaner and more reliable for downloaders. - Credit the creator when sharing. Even if you've removed the watermark, always mention the original creator's TikTok username when sharing their content elsewhere.
