What barcode formats are supported?
We support 8 popular barcode formats: CODE128 (alphanumeric), CODE39 (alphanumeric with special characters), EAN-13 (13-digit retail), EAN-8 (8-digit compact), UPC (12-digit North American), ITF-14 (14-digit packaging), MSI (numeric inventory), and Pharmacode (pharmaceutical).
Which barcode format should I use?
CODE128 is the most versatile for general use. Use EAN-13 or UPC for retail products, ITF-14 for packaging, MSI for inventory management, and Pharmacode for pharmaceutical products. CODE39 is common in logistics and manufacturing.
Do I need to calculate check digits?
No! For EAN-13 and UPC barcodes, our generator automatically calculates and adds the check digit if you enter 12 or 11 digits respectively. You can also enter the full code with check digit already included.
Can I customize the barcode appearance?
Yes! You can adjust bar width (1-5px), height (50-200px), colors (bars and background), margins, and text options including font size, style, alignment, and position.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
PNG is best for web use and printing at a fixed size. SVG is a vector format that scales infinitely without quality loss - ideal for professional printing, large formats, or when you need to resize the barcode later.
Are my barcodes stored anywhere?
No! All barcode generation happens entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device, and we don't store or track any information you enter.
What if I get an error?
Each barcode format has specific requirements. For example, EAN-13 requires 12-13 digits, CODE39 only accepts uppercase letters and numbers, and MSI only accepts numeric digits. Check the format description and example for guidance.
Can I use these barcodes commercially?
Yes, you can use the generated barcodes for any purpose. However, for retail products (EAN/UPC), you need to obtain official product codes from GS1 or your national barcode authority.
