FAQs
What color formats are supported?
Our color picker supports 5 major color formats: HEX (hexadecimal), RGB (Red, Green, Blue), HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness), HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value), and CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black). All formats convert to each other in real-time.
How do I convert between color formats?
Simply adjust any color value using the sliders or input fields, and all other formats update automatically. For example, change the RGB sliders and watch the HEX, HSL, HSV, and CMYK values update instantly.
What's the difference between HSL and HSV?
HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) and HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value) are both cylindrical color models. HSL's lightness goes from black (0%) to white (100%) with pure color at 50%. HSV's value goes from black (0%) to pure color (100%). HSL is often preferred for color selection, while HSV is common in image editing.
When should I use CMYK?
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) is used for print design. If you're designing for physical printing (brochures, business cards, posters), use CMYK values. For web and screen design, use RGB or HEX.
Can I enter a HEX color directly?
Yes! Type or paste any HEX color code (with or without #) into the HEX input field. The tool accepts both 6-digit (#FF5733) and 3-digit (#F53) HEX codes.
What does the Random Color button do?
The Random Color button generates a completely random color, which is useful for design inspiration, testing color schemes, or exploring color combinations.
How do I copy a color value?
Click the 'Copy' button next to any color format (HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, or CMYK) to copy that value to your clipboard. The button will show 'Copied!' to confirm.
Why does the text color change in the preview?
The tool automatically calculates the best contrasting text color (black or white) based on the background color's luminance. This ensures the HEX code is always readable in the preview.
Is my color data stored anywhere?
No! All color conversions happen entirely in your browser. No color data is sent to servers or stored anywhere.
